Examples of applications of zirconia ceramic balls
(1) Powder ultra-fine grinding
Zirconia ceramic ball grinding media is often used for ultra-fine grinding of heavy calcium carbonate, kaolin, mica and other non-metallic minerals. The diameter of the grinding media is related to the particle size of the raw material and the desired product particle size. In order to improve the grinding efficiency, the particle size of the grinding medium must be 10 times larger than the particle size of the raw material and the material must be ground to 200 times the particle size. The Mohs hardness of the grinding media must be more than 3 times higher than the material being ground. Therefore, in order to obtain ultrafine particles in the micron-nano range, the grinding media needs to be as small as possible. Zirconia ceramic grinding balls have a large specific gravity, and can still ensure high grinding efficiency even with a small volume. Zirconia ceramic grinding balls have a large specific gravity and small particle size, and will not pollute the material to be ground, which meets the production needs of ultrafine powder. Therefore, zirconia ceramic balls have become the commonly used grinding media in sand mills.
(2) Ceramic industry
In the field of construction and sanitary ceramics production, using ordinary silica as the grinding medium not only reduces the grinding efficiency, but also introduces excess silicon dioxide due to greater wear and tear, and the ratio of the base glaze needs to be adjusted. Zirconia ceramic grinding media has the advantages of low wear, high efficiency and does not affect the whiteness of the material. It has been widely used in various markets. In the cement industry, more companies choose to use ceramic grinding balls instead of steel balls. In terms of thermal expansion coefficient, YSZ is similar to steel. At a high temperature of 600°C, its hardness and strength hardly change. It is a substitute for steel balls. However, due to cost issues, more companies choose alumina ceramic products. Alumina ceramic balls wear about 50% less than steel balls, and their service life is 2 to 3 times that of steel balls. The lighter weight of alumina ceramic balls not only prolongs the life of grinding machinery, but also saves a lot of electric energy. A cost-effective option.
(3) Ink, paint, coating industry
The kinetic energy of a moving object can be represented by E=1/2mv2, so it can be seen that under the condition of constant speed, an object with a larger specific gravity will have greater kinetic energy. The materials in the paint and ink industry have high viscosity and are not easy to disperse. Therefore, it is necessary for the grinding medium to provide sufficient kinetic energy to disperse the materials and break up the agglomeration. Zirconia ceramic grinding media has a large proportion and has become the choice of this type of industry. In addition, fineness is one of the main factors affecting ink performance and printing adaptability, and fineness will affect the gloss and rheology of ink. The fineness of general ink can reach 15μm, and the fineness of ultra-fine ink can reach 1~2μm. The sand mill is used as the grinding machine, and the traditional glass beads are replaced by zirconia ceramic beads, which greatly improves the grinding efficiency, can control the fineness of the ink, and obtain ideal products
